Referee coaches

Rule knowledge is the foundation of a good referee, but experience and feedback make one. Referee coaches shadow trainees on court, run the observation assessments that unlock each accreditation level, and mentor referees through the season.

Accreditation

From May 2026 all referee coaches must hold a nationally recognised accreditation to conduct on-court assessments or coach referees in Basketball NSW competitions. The G1 Referee Coach course on etrainu covers community and association level; G2 is for state and national level. Former association referee coaches complete G1 to transition.

Become a referee coach

Experienced referees who want to give back, and parents with officiating backgrounds, are both welcome. Email referees@snakepit.com.au and we’ll walk you through the G1 course and pair you with a senior coach for your first season.
