Scoretable
Scoretable officials keep the score and the clock. In junior local competitions parents and teams share the job; in senior divisions, representative games and NBL1, accredited scoretable officials are required — and paid.
Roles
At local level there are two positions: the scorer, who completes the scoresheet, and the timekeeper, who runs the game clock and scoreboard. At representative and NBL1 level a chairperson manages the table and liaises with the referees, an assistant scorer helps with the scoreboard, and a shot-clock operator runs the 24-second clock.
Accreditation
Basketball Australia’s scoretable course is online through etrainu (Basketball Australia – Officiating → Scoretable). After the course you’re evaluated in each role during real games; once you’ve been signed off in each role twice you can nominate for the next level. Level 1 covers domestic games, Level 2 junior and senior representative home games, Level 3 NBL1 and above.
Parents doing the bench for the first time?
Ask the court supervisor — they’ll walk you through the scoresheet in five minutes before tip-off. A sample scoresheet and instructions are on the bench clipboard.
